Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.** Proverbs 3:5-8 (NIV)**

The Lesson Learned

God’s ways are quite frequently not our ways, Amen? More often than not, we begin to kick against His best for our lives because it does not suit our whims or wishes. Further, His plan for us and His teachings are far more difficult than we would choose for ourselves. We much prefer ease and pleasure. Just carry us to heaven on a bed of down, right? Many times we discover our plans do not fit into His perfect mold – as seeking to put a square peg into a round hole – and He faithfully, gently closes doors on what would not be best for us to walk through. Thankfully. We must remember He loves us with an everlasting love – even rejoicing over us with singing. We presently see such a poor reflection as in a mirror, but God sees face to face. We know in part, but He knows fully. Therefore, when we do not follow Him – leaning rather on our own limited understanding - we rob ourselves of God’s best. We miss the pleasure of standing firm in His will, mature and fully assured - which, BTW, is taking hold of the life that is truly life – an inner life replete with joy and peace. It’s hard to shake the boat with Jesus in it – the winds may blow hard but He is the God of the wind and the waves. He merely whispers “Peace, be still”. And the wind and waves obey. Perfect calm. Sounds amazing does it not?

We can be certain that all He allows in the lives of His heirs of mercy is beneficial whether we are able to ascertain that or not – it is still true. He is making us like our Savior as He was to be the Firstborn among many brothers. We would also do well to remember that the Creator knows what the created needs. God desires for all of His children to walk as Jesus walked and He uses everything He allows towards that great end. Everything. Even the hard. Particularly the hard. He has promised us we will have troubles in this world but He added we are take heart as He has overcome the world. His desire is for us to trust His process. He always has our best interest at heart. We can trust His providence as God is directing us to our eternal home and guiding us by His wisdom and counsel. He is leading us to a world of life and light, full of eternal pleasures and joys forevermore.

Wholehearted trust in the Lord means we do not solely rely on our own faulty human understanding, for human reasoning and insights are never enough. They will always come up wanting. Yet, God’s ways are incomprehensible. We can trust His guidance and leading. He is leading us to His appointed goal.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”** Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)**

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
