“I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalms 18:1-2 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

King David rolls the word “My” around on his tongue like a delectable piece of chocolate reminding himself that “He is my God”. The pronoun “My” is worth much to the soul, Amen?  The believer’s joys and comforts and consolations hang upon this – we are His. We belong to Jesus. We no longer remain needy as we are a child of the King. Every other person, place or thing will never fully satisfy the human soul because they were not created to. We were created to be filled with God and until we are we remain continually wanting. Enough will simply never be enough.
God is the happiness of mankind because of His suitableness to our souls. We are His creation and He knows exactly what we need. A hungry person will never be satisfied with dirt but food.  A dying man seeks not honors and wealth but cure. What the world offers is chaff compared to wheat and a false sense of security instead of a firm place to stand. It is not an easy thing to fully satisfy a man’s soul, Amen? Yet, God both fills us with His fullness and causes us to stand because He is faithful and able to cause us to stand. Outward mercies upon which most place their hopes and dreams will never fully satisfy and are soul satisfaction mirages at best. We seek to take these sweet blessings – these gifts from His hands – and give them God’s place in our souls. And we remain needy and, quite frankly, stinking to be around. Remember, it is in His Presence that there is fullness of joy. It is He that has eternal pleasures at His right hand (Psalms 16:11). He also quiets us with His love and rejoices over us with singing.
The Lord is our all-sufficient portion filling our cups to overflowing and causing our boundary lines to fall in pleasant places. He is our delightful inheritance, our Ultimate Soul Satisfier.

Heart Savor

The Lion Roars

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”  Ephesians 1:18-23 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
