The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him. Nahum 1:7 (NIV)
Our God is a good and righteous God Who does no wrong – no evil is found within Him. He is pure Holiness - gently caring for His own - yet all the while remaining full of justice as He will be both wrathful and powerful towards those who continually reject and oppose Him. His great heart is longsuffering towards the lost and desires for none to perish but all to come to repentance – continually wooing and turning no one away who willingly seeks Him with their whole heart. A broken and contrite heart the Lord will never despise. He loves, protects and cares for His children as a loving father protects those in his household yet even more so. As Psalms 27:1 (NIV) tells us: “The LORD is my light and my salvation -- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life -- of whom shall I be afraid?”
The child of the King can have an abundant and jubilant confidence in the King of kings and the Lord of lords sans fear. If you are His, you are always His. And He is always loving, faithful, merciful, caring, helpful and protecting towards His own. All we need to do is call on His Name. Indeed, He is a “stronghold” as well as a strong tower - as King David writes - for every heir of mercy. And our reaction towards Him and His ways are to be one of great gratitude. The Prophet Jeremiah writes in Jeremiah 33:11B (NIV): “Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; His love endures forever.” Indeed, forever and ever.
We can trust Him. We can always trust Him because He never changes. We may change like the shifting sands, but He never changes. What a great comfort that is for every child of the King. He is always and forever our fortified place of refuge. In Deuteronomy 32:3-4 (NIV) Moses tells us: “I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” He is our refuge and strength – an ever present help in all our troubles.
And He is not stingy in His vast stores of all things. He gives us what we can handle and all that we need to stand “firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured” as Epaphras prayed for the Church at Colosse in Colossians 4:12 (NIV). As His followers we too are to walk in goodness and righteousness through His power and for His glory. May we always be faithful to walk in His ways as He is ever faithful to us.
This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone. Titus 3:8 (NIV)
