Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.** Hebrews 11:1-2 (NIV)**

The Lesson Learned

Faith, in its very essence, is being certain and confident – convinced of  unseen Truths, hopes and realities. The Christian faith is taking God at His Word – persuaded that it is True Truth. God is not like man. He never lies or changes His mind, vacillates or wrings His Almighty Hands wondering what to do. Indeed in Malachi 3:6 (NIV) we are told by Him the following Truth: “I the LORD do not change.”

Believers in Christ Jesus are to view every circumstance through the lens of faith. Indeed, in Hebrews 11, the great worthies of the Old Testament were commended for their faith. While they did many unbelievable, courageous and powerful exploits, it was their faith that the Bible brings to the greatest light. Because Scripture also tells us in Hebrews 11:6 (NIV): “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” The crown is set on the head of great faith. This is a heads up for us as well. Of all the graces it is the most excellent. More often than not, defects in a life stem from decay in the faith. We would all do well to strengthen our faith in Him.

Believers are to view all their experiences in life through the lens of faith as well. And what God allows in the lives of His heirs of mercy – be it ever so hard or easy - is used to strengthen our faith – equipping us to do  “pala” things, things “too hard” for mere flesh to accomplish. Further, what He allows is always for our good and His glory one never surpassing the other. There is always purpose in every trial and tribulation just as there is in our joys and jubilations. This was also true in the exploits of the ancients of the past. God desires for us to be more and more like Jesus and less and less like flesh. These great worthies were all flesh and bones - as we are – yet, through the indwelling power of God they were able to achieve His will above mere human ability. That is what all believers in Jesus should desire. Our heart’s longings is to hear at Heaven’s gate what Scripture tells us in Matthew 25:23 (NIV) regarding the faithful servant: “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!’”

Believers are not to simply have faith in our faith rather faith in Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.** Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)**

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
