The Lesson Learned

As a small child feels secure, protected and loved under their father’s wing or in their mother’s arms, so too the child of the King of kings and the Lord of lords. True security is found only in Him not in people, places or things. They will often be found wanting as they are imperfect at best. Yet, believers can rest secure in the Lord Who does what He says and says what He does. We can stand firm in His Truth. Remember Scripture tells us in Psalms 84:11-12 (NIV): “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O LORD Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.” Our walks are to be blameless - not perfect – denying self and depending upon His power to equip us to walk in a manner worthy of the great Gospel we proclaim.

As we have a Father in heaven, we are to look up to heaven often. Our great work and walk of faith is to sense His Presence throughout all of life as He leads, guides, directs and protects us on our journey’s home. Walking with Him in the “cool of the day” - so to speak – as did our original parent’s prior to the fall. God desires to be close to us and we are the great losers if we discover ourselves seeking lesser things more. The child of the King is to have great confidence in approaching God – not that we will get specifically what we ask for (although we may) but that we will get what is best for us (even if we may not initially understand). His “no’s” are always for a far greater “Yes”. We see such a poor reflection but He sees face to face – we know only in part, but He knows fully even as we are fully known, Scripture tells us. 1 John 5:14-15 (NIV) tells us: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us -- whatever we ask -- we know that we have what we asked of him.” And we know that God’s will is good, pleasing and perfect – even though perhaps unutterably difficult. He will either change our circumstance or change our hearts in our circumstances. The latter being the greater miracle.

While Satan loves to present the bait but hide the hook or serve with the golden cup yet disguise the poison or hold forth to us the pleasure but hide the misery certain to follow, God desires to keep us from falling into the adversary’s wily ways who never has our best interest at heart but God always does. His desire is for us to turn from evil and to trust in Him and to do good; to dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture; to delight in Him and He will give us the desires of our hearts – which, of course, is Him - as King David writes in Psalms 37. We need only to trust in Him and commit or ways to the Lord. Oftentimes, we only call on the Lord when troubles abound and we cannot discern a way out. But God delights for His children to constantly call upon Him, learn of His ways and walk in them through His power and for His glory. In this we discover rest for our weariness and peace for tumultuous lives. We can trust Him.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
