Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.** John 14:27 (NIV)**

The Lesson Learned

Ah…peace – perfect peace. Who does not want that? God desires for all His children to remain - even bask - in this perfect peace which passes all understanding because - guess what? He (not we) is the One in total and complete control of all things. He is on His Throne. He is always on His throne. No plan of His can be thwarted. We can rest secure in Him. And He always has our best interest at heart. He is never found wanting or wringing His Almighty Hands wondering what in the world to do or how to do it. He never makes a mistake and He is never taken by surprise. And He has a perfect and pleasing plan – even though perhaps (or most often) we may not readily comprehend that. He merely speaks and it is so. All things obey Him – whether forced or not - even the wind and the waves.

The Creator knows and understands the created and as He has a perfect plan for each life, we are not forced to walk in it. Sadly, to our own harm, we often choose not to being blinded by the world. Yet amazingly, He makes known the end from the beginning from ancient times what is yet to come and His purposes will always stand as He has the power to carry them through to fruition. Remember, He does all that He pleases and what He pleases is good and perfect. His beloved can rest secure in Him bringing them perfect peace even as the winds howl. He bestows an inner tranquility amidst the raging storms of this life as we rest secure in Him.

The design of God in all things allowed in the lives of His heirs of mercy is for their instruction, reformation, restoration and salvation bringing us peace no matter how hard the storm may be blowing. He hears our prayers. He sees our tears. God casts an eye of love upon all we do for Him and takes special notice of the desires of our souls. And He looks upon our groans, thoughts, desires and tears with an eye of love – even capturing our tears in a bottle. We can know He does not allow one pain without purpose in the lives of His heirs of mercy.

We are to set our hearts upon the One Who is forever faithful. We are not to build our houses upon the quicksand of this deceitful and perishing world rather on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ which stands immovably secure amidst roaring floods and descending downpours. We live in a fallen and broken world (of our own choosing) where pain, sin and depravity abound and we will never make heaven out of earth. So we need not try. Therefore, as believers we are to set our affections upon Christ and His merits placing our trust in His efficacious blood and filled with joy inexpressible in His Presence. It is His Presence that brings forth our perfect peace and joy. The world offers it, but the world cannot give it as the world can never cleanse a guilty conscience nor satisfy a longing soul. All the world offers comes up wanting no matter what it espouses. Indeed, all the flowers, glitz and the promises the world offers fades and fails – never bringing lasting satisfaction or the peace that passes understanding that it so readily promises. Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. It is only in Him that we may obtain this perfect peace – even in the midst of surging currents and dark valleys. He Himself will carry us through – He never leaves us nor forsakes us. In Him alone is perfect peace – not as the world gives. We are not to let our hearts be troubled or afraid rather trust in Him – the Author and Perfecter of our faith. He is with us always. And He is only a breath away. Call on Him.
