Our Gracious Helper: Never Will He Leave Us

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

All believers in Christ should know with certainty that God’s power is constantly available for them. He never leaves us. He never forsakes us. He is our safe and secure Portion that can never be taken from us. No devil or foe, friend or fiend can rob us of Him. Believer, He is ours by covenant, purchase and promise. This will silence our fears and lift our dragging hearts when we are walking through our Valley of Baca’s (tears). God has not left us as orphans either. He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide, direct and empower us to walk in a manner worthy of the Gospel sans fear, anger, rage, malice, slander, filthy language - behaviors that are anything but Christlike. All we need do is call on Him. He is always a breath away yet He is ever the Gentleman, He does not force Himself upon the sinner rather waits upon them to call on Him. Why is it that we often chronically remain so stubbornly self-dependent – getting us nowhere fast – until we finally on our last ditch look up? Not too dissimilar to prodigal son. The Father is always there simply waiting for us to breathe His Name. God will help – not perhaps He will.

If we fully understand God is for us and not against us, that He is on our side and that His desires for us are good, perfect and pleasing, our obedience becomes stronger according to our faith in this principle. God stands at the ready ever engaged to help the saint. Our problem is that all too often we wait until we are at the very end of our rope before we cry out to Him. If He sends us forth, if He gives us the work to do, He will carry us through it – we need not fear. God uses His faith - filled vessels to do things too hard for man to do – think Moses, Gideon, Abraham, the disciples and on and on I could go. We can depend upon His mighty arm for strength, sufficiency and peace to walk through all He presents in our lives to do. The soul not persuaded of this truth is unstable in their obedience as they focus on the arm of flesh and stand unaware that God is at their back. Nehemiah’s prayer “O, God, strengthen my hands” should also be our prayer. Our peace and comfort increases as we lean into God’s power and not in the arm of flesh. Yet, when we realize that God is on our side we can walk through our “Valley’s of Baca’s” (tears) going from “strength to strength”.

The divine heart of God has our back (to say the very least). He is all in with all His heart and soul. Not half-hearted, nor indifferent, begrudging or obligatory, rather He rejoices to do us good with all his heart and soul. Could there be anything greater than His winds beneath our wings? Our God is for us and not against us. His whole heart and His whole soul stand at the ready for all who believe in His Son. No created power will ever be able to separate the love God from His people.

Heart Savor

The Lion Roars

They will be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul. Jeremiah 32:37-41 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
