You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
God is the Father of all peace – perfect peace, His Son is the Prince of Peace and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Peace. Those who belong to the Lord Jesus are to be peacemakers as we depend upon and lean into the power of the Holy Spirit indwelling within every true child of the King – rather than on our own limited understandings. Peace is the fruit of the Spirit – the third mentioned of nine in Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV): “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” As true believers in Christ, we are indwelled with the Holy Spirit. Again, Paul tells us in Romans 8:9 (NIV): “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.”
As God’s heirs of mercy, we are not to be divisive or dishonest as Satan - the father of all discord and deceit. As you know, he was responsible for the first division in heaven and whose kingdom grows with both division and strife – the antithesis of what our Lord Jesus came to bring to this earth – perfect unity and peace. God’s peace will flood the life of the believer with an inner tranquility sans circumstances.
Christ is the Prince of Peace and He came to bring peace to all who would believe in Him by making peace through His blood shed on the cross as the great Apostle Paul writes in Colossians 1:19-20 (NIV): “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” Perfect peace comes only through Him and is maintained by Him. Again, as Isaiah 26:3 (NIV) tells us: “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”
As we fix our eyes on Jesus the Author and Perfecter of our faith, we grow up in Him Who is the Head – the Prince of Peace. If there is no Jesus in a life, there is no true peace. No Jesus, no peace. Know Jesus, know peace.
If God is our Father, we will have a peaceful spirit as His great grace infuses the believer with a peace that passes understanding – even in the greatest difficulties. The more peaceful we are, the more like our Lord Jesus we are. And those who are His are peacemakers. Remember, Satan’s kingdom grows only through making divisions not through peace.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7 (NIV)
