“I the LORD do not change.” Malachi 3:6 (NIV)
Like His Word, the Lord does not change. We can stand fast in that Truth. He is not whimsical nor moved by mutability as change cannot affect Him - His heart can never be altered. All else changes yet He remains the same. He is the One with immortality, whose years are never ending and there is no change within Him. Amid all the fluctuations of this tumultuous life, He is the believer’s Solid Ground – the Rock upon which we can safely stand. True Truth firmly standing – Hallelujah! This brings great satisfaction to the Christian and a constant steadiness to our souls as God is never swayed by the whims and ways of man. He is the unmovable ROCK amid all the changes of this crazy, tumultuous world and we can rest secure in the fact that God never will change. There are no “shifting shadows” with Him. He is all the things He ever was – the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, as the writer of Hebrews tells us in Hebrews 13:8 (NIV): “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Charles Spurgeon writes: “Whatever His attributes were in ages past, they are now; His power, His wisdom, His justice, His truth are unchanged as well. He has always been the refuge of His people, their stronghold in the day of trouble, and He is their sure Helper still. He is unchanged in His love. He has loved His people with “an everlasting love;” He loves them now as much as ever He did, and when all earthly things shall have melted in the last conflagration, His love will still wear the dew of its youth. How valuable it is to have the assurance that He doesn’t change.” Charles H. Spurgeon
God in all His perfections does not change and His mercies are new every morning – great is His faithfulness. There remains no variation within Him from eternity to eternity. He is constantly the same in nature, the same in His will, and the same in purpose. How wonderfully refreshing this is to the believer! His wisdom, His power, His knowledge will forever be the same. And He lacks nothing. He is infinitely good, holy, wise and immutable. If He could change, He would not be perfect, Amen? Psalms 102:26-27 (NIV) tells us: “They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”
“Remember this, fix it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” Isaiah 46:8-10 (NIV)
