“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”** John 3:16-18 (NIV)**
This is the Gospel – pure and simple. It does us well to remember that God’s motivation towards His people is always love. Always. We are all great sinners and Jesus is indeed a great Savior. God expressed His love towards broken humanity with the gift of His Son. And His love is not limited to a few but to the entire world. Whomever would believe in Jesus.
Scripture tells us that what the law was powerless to do - in that it was weakened by the sinful nature - God did - by sending His own Son as a sin offering as the great Apostle Paul beautifully penned in Romans 8:1-4 (NIV): “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.”
We also find in Paul’s writing’s in 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 (NIV): “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Sinfulness spreads and increases in one’s life unless it is effectively combated by conscious effort – keeping our eyes on our own “little red wagons” – each of us seeking to be more like Jesus through His power and for His glory. Indeed, Scripture tells us we are to walk as Jesus walked.
Blood is priceless and precious when it streams from our Lord’s side. The power of His precious blood covers all our sins. Salvation by works is a broken vessel yet Christ’s blood insures the whole – His blood making His testimony valid. Happy are they who see their title to heaven assured by our dying Savior.
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst.** 1 Timothy 1:15 (NIV)**
