Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

Ever feel blue? Downtrodden from working so hard and getting nowhere faster than the speed of lightening? Run to Jesus. He who holds the universe in His mighty Hands and sustains all things by His powerful Word is almighty in strength to help us - all we need do is call His Name. The Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omnicient God is our strong tower and when we run to Him we are safe. Scripture tells us in Proverbs 18:10 (NIV): “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” He is our refuge and strength and we are not to fear. Psalms 46:1-3 (NIV) also tells us: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah.

The Lord is the basis for the believers security and peace. He Who loves us with an everlasting love and rejoices over us with singing has His eye on us for good and not harm. Deuteronomy 33:12 (NIV) reinforces this Truth in such a tender way – loving each one of us as if we were the only one: “Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders.” Perfect peace. Further, Scripture states in Isaiah 26:3 (NIV): “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” This is a peace which transcends all human understanding, a peace regardless of our circumstances.

Our lives can be very difficult and hard to comprehend. We are not given every precise answer in Scripture BUT we are given exactly what we need to sustain us and enable us to stand firm even when the winds of our circumstances are howling. We need only to place our trust in Him Who causes us to stand because He is faithful and able to cause us to stand – no matter how hard the winds may blow. It also does us well to remember that Heaven is our home, earth is merely our sojourn. And what we do here matters there. It matters greatly.

Over and over and over again, God’s Word sweetly reminds us that He is all-powerful, in control, our refuge and strength, our help and our hope. Believers have a promise that is far greater than any paste gem the world has to offer. Further, God is both good and loving and has our best interest at heart in all He allows. Remember, He is the One that upholds all things with His righteous right Hand and sustains them by His powerful Word. Hebrews 1:3 (NIV) tells us: “The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”

Our hope in Him as our strong shield, our refuge, our strength is an utterly reliable anchor for our souls no matter what hurricanes may be ripping through our lives – His anchor stands firm and secure.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
