Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.** Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)**
“Don’t worry” is easy to say yet hard to live, Amen? The struggles of this fallen world can be very overwhelming at times causing us to freeze in fear, doubting if our Savior even cares about our difficult circumstance, temptations and anxieties. Yet, His desire is to carry us through them on eagle’s wings. He stands at the ready - engaged at our defense - even if we cannot “feel” it or recognize it. The foundation of His worthy trust is His Word. Over and over again throughout all of Scripture we find the words “Do not fear”, perhaps because we as humans have such a proclivity to it. It is certainly easy to say yet it can be very difficult to flesh out. And Jesus sweetly reminds us in Matthew 6:25-27 (NIV): “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Who, indeed? His almighty power stands at the ready for both our defense and our comfort – even in (and perhaps most importantly) the unutterably difficult. God’s love for His saints engages His power on their behalf and certainly how much more power does one need than the Omnipotent?
Remember as well, the saints are very dear to Him. Every believer cost Him the life of His Son as they were purchased by the highest sacrifice of His precious, perfect blood. The highest cost given for even the “lowest” saint. Surely, if He expended His power to gain us, He will also expend His power to keep us. When we are fearful and at the end of our ropes, helpless and hopelessly wondering what to do next, look up. Cry out to Him - He is only a breath away. All we have to do is call His Name. The Prophet Isaiah tells us in Isaiah 26:3 (NIV): “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” As well as in Isaiah 43:1-3A (NIV): “But now, this is what the LORD says--he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”
“Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders.”** Deuteronomy 33:12 (NIV)**
