Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.** 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)**

The Lesson Learned

As God’s fellow laborer’s we are to earnestly do our best in seeking His approval in all we say and do and think – through His power and for His glory. “That’s my boy” or “That’s my girl” is the kind of affirmation from the Lord that our souls are to long for. Indeed Christians are to live their lives for an Audience of One and that is the Lord Jesus Christ – Who poured out His life like a drink offering for us. When we please Him, walking in a manner worthy of the great Gospel we profess, we will shine like the “stars in the universe as we hold out the Word of life”. And God is well pleased. Are we leaving the “aroma of Christ” in our spheres of influence or the stench of death? It matters.

Knowing and doing His will as presented in His Word sets us free. It is as living out our best lives for an audience of One. Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (NIV): “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” “Transformed into His likeness” is to be our great desire as well.

God sees all. God hears all. God knows all. And He delights for His children to seek His pleasure in all their heart-felt and Spirit filled actions and words. Further, He is intimately aware of our ways. Indeed, if the very hairs of our head are all numbered, if He even maintains knowledge of the motives behind what we say and do and think, how much more so our thoughts, our words and our deeds in His sight? We do this by being astute workmen of His Word – not only learners and hearers but doers. His Word is to go from our heads to our hearts to our hands.

God desires for us to know His Truth found in Scripture and not only know it, but apply it to our lives for our good, for the good of others in our spheres and for His glory. A well lived life is an unbelievably powerful force to reckon with as it is so totally other in its nature. The world takes note when one walks as Jesus walked as it is so opposite of the world’s ways which demonstrates as being desperate for direction, for meaning and for hope. And those who know Jesus as Lord have these and more – so much more.

Nothing speaks louder to the world than one seeking to walk as Jesus walked – through His power and for His glory. He was approachable, kind, loving, joyful, selfless, full of peace and good works and a plethora of other things. His life drew people as flies to honey and even more so. But this cannot be done in our own strength as we will fail miserably. We do not have the power within us apart from the Holy Spirit. We perhaps can pull it off or a bit but then the flesh comes forth rearing its ugly head, Amen? We need His power – the power of the Holy Spirit – Who indwells every child of the King – to accomplish “pala” works – things too hard for us to do in the mere flesh.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
