Overwhelmed With The Wonder Of It All: What Is Man That You Are Mindful Of Him?

The Lion Loosed

As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him. Mark 9:15 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

The crowds stood amazed at Jesus in their midst. I wonder, do we stand amazed at Jesus in our midst? The One Who was made flesh and dwelt among us. The One Who came to save us from all of our wallowing and wayward ways. The One Who cleanses us and makes us holy through His blood. The One Who poured His life out like a drink offering for us. The One Who sent His Holy Spirit to indwell His believers, not leaving them as orphans, rather coming to them. The One Who sits at the right hand of God living to intercede for us. The Omnipotent One Who spoke and it was so. Are we, like King David, surprised and overwhelmed that He is even mindful of us? That He even cares for us?
When Jesus sees the demonic possessed boy in Mark 9:21-23 (NIV), He asks: Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”
Jesus’ point here lies in the fact that all things are possible through Him - nothing is impossible - too hard - for Him. He is a “pala” God – meaning He does wonderous things, miracles, beyond the bounds of human powers or expectations. And what He does is good. It is always good because His plans are perfect – plans to give us hope and a future. His actions are never random, chance or happenstance. We may not understand but we must learn to embrace what is allowed as He always has our best interest at heart. If we receive a “No”, it is always for a far greater “Yes”. God is seeking to conform every believer to the image of His Son and He goes to great lengths to do so. We can trust Him with our lives as He is not only all powerful, He is also all loving - particularly towards every heir of mercy. We can trust Him to do what is humanly impossible – indeed, He delights in that because it points us to Him. And the One Who gives the power is to get the glory. Our faith is to set no limits on the power of God and to submit to His good and pleasing and perfect will for our lives. This is always for our good. Uncertainty and a want of trust in the promises of God does not honor the Son. If He did the greater, will He not also do the lesser? Be overwhelmed by the wonder of the love of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Heart Savor

The Lion Roars

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
